About this website

This is the website of the Middle Atlantic Folklife Association. It is intended primarily for MAFA members as well as the larger community of folklorists, the wonderful people we work with, learn from, and teach, and for the public at large. Registration will be restricted to current members of the organization.

The website uses the open source Civicspace content management system (CMS) http://www.civicspacelabs.org, which is based on another open source CMS Drupal, http://drupal.org.

These are amazing tools in facilitating community and communication online. They are also new tools with some weaknesses and underdeveloped features. We ask for your patience and forbearance as you use the site, but please use the site for all its worth. Post your events, post your images, respond to each other with comments. The more we use this site the more useful it will be to all of us. And as these tools evolve, and we learn how to use them, this site will also grow and develop.

I found the website to be lacking in ease of finding basic information for the organization: officers/directors, address, phone number, "contact us" link. Working in the field in New York State I appreciate the forums, essays, galleries etc., but if one cannot find essential information or easily search a site its usefulness decreases as frustration rises.

Good call Karen! We will work to improve it.

Impressive and is certainly keeping our region abreast of folklore colleagues throughout the Mid Atlantic.
